he Men's Center is a new program at Phoenix Counseling & Hypnotherapy that opened in the fall of 2006. The Center, under the direction of Dr. Mike, specializes in service to Gay and Bisexual men, their partners and their families, as well as men questioning their sexual orientation. This program was established because of a demonstrated need for comprehensive counseling and therapy services for men attracted to men in the Washington metropolitan area. Center services include mental health evaluations, individual, couples and group counseling, hypnotherapy, Eye Movement Integration (EMI™) therapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

Counseling groups meet weekly, in the evening or on Saturday. Groups operate on a “rolling admissions” basis. New members are admitted as vacancies occur, or when a new group is established. Counseling groups are facilitated by Dr. Mike. The groups address issues faced by Gay and Bisexual men as they live and work in the world. Topics for discussion are generated by group members. A typical meeting would include a brief “check-in” by members about how they are doing, followed by a deeper discussion of a planned or spontaneous topic.

Clients can be referred to The Men’s Center by other therapists for treatment interventions related to being Gay or Bisexual, or for specialized techniques such as hypnotherapy, Eye Movement Integration or Neuro Linguistic Programming not otherwise available from a Gay service provider. Dr. Mike specializes in the treatment of anxiety, phobias, trauma and PTSD and regularly accepts referrals to treat these illnesses. The center also provides referrals to other mental health professionals as is appropriate or necessary.

To inquire about individual, couples, or group counseling through The Men’s Center, contact Dr. Mike by phone at (703) 212-8406 or by e-mail at DrMike@Deninger.com.

Center affiliates are Gay or unconditionally accepting of the challenges and joys of being Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual in this day and age. Services may be eligible for insurance reimbursement and Center therapists are network providers for a number of major insurance plans. Check with your insurance provider before your first conversation with a therapist or prior to scheduling an appointment.

The Phoenix office is only two blocks from the 395 Duke Street exit and a short cab or bus ride from the Van Dorn Metro stop on the Blue Line.
