r. Mike provides hypnotherapy services to help people overcome habits or to achieve some result that they have been unable to attain. Examples would be smoking, overeating, nail biting, maintaining an exercise routine, thumb sucking, passing college entrance or Bar exams, or performance in sports or other areas. Problems such as these are almost always treated in three sessions, spaced a week or two apart. There are normally two parts to the first session:

1.) A brief evaluation is conducted by Dr. Mike so that he can fully understand the nature of the problem and the person’s desired outcome. He can then determine treatment options. A verbal contract for the expected change is agreed upon between Dr. Mike and the client.

2.) The first hypnotherapy activity is conducted. Often, the focus in the first session is to create in the individual an expectation for change. Many clients come to Dr. Mike for help after they have tried everything. Some are almost ready to give up. Because of this, it is important to help clients understand that they have the resources they need to achieve what they desire. Dr. Mike is a talented therapist and hypnotherapist, but it is the client who achieves the results.

In sessions two and three, the behavior is targeted for elimination or enhancement, based on strategies and schedules agreed upon between Dr. Mike and the client. Dr. Mike often uses a variety of techniques in addition to hypnotherapy. Where there are blocks or limitations, he helps release them. Where there are fears, he helps calm them so the change can occur.

Other problems such as generalized anxiety, stress, phobias, or chronic pain may require more than three sessions, especially if there is a link between the problem and a person’s relationships, career, or family issues. But the goal of Phoenix is to complete the work in as few sessions as possible.

Each session begins promptly at the appointed time and lasts 50 minutes. If a session is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, a $50 fee will be charged. Sessions are normally scheduled on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. When appropriate, a recording (CD) is made of the hypnotherapy part of each session so that the work can be reinforced at home.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and specialist in the treatment of anxiety and trauma, Dr. Mike will also determine whether other issues may be interfering with a person’s accomplishment of a goal. Sometimes it is necessary to address other problems first, in order to improve the likelihood of success. For example, a person who is physically threatened at home will find it difficult to stop smoking (or any other habit for that matter).

Hypnotherapy can help to create powerful change, but only if the client is committed to the change. If a man calls and says he wants to schedule a three-session smoking cessation package for his partner, Dr. Mike will ask to speak to the partner directly. If a woman calls and says she enjoys smoking and doesn’t want to quit, but is coming because her spouse asked her to, Dr. Mike will suggest that she return when she wants to stop for her own reasons. However, if a person is committed to the change, but is not confident he or she will be able to achieve it, the work can begin. A simple commitment to change is half the battle.

All hypnotherapy sessions are bound by the same confidentiality rules required for counseling or therapy.
